Dans l'Ain

The Clos du Chêne is located in Saint Bernard, in the French department called "Ain", which is the name of the river which flows through it.

You will find, only a short walk from our home, the castle once inhabited by the French painter Utrillo.  In the spring, the castle garden literally explodes with daffodils !

In the town of Trévoux, you can visit the medieval streets of the old village and enjoy a magnificent view of the Saône valley.  You can reach Trévoux in only ten minutes by bicycle, by following the tow path along the river. (We'll be happy to supply a bicycle, but you will have to supply the energy !)

Don't miss the Parc des Oiseaux (open from March till November) only a short drive away, and observe hundreds of birds, some right in their natural environment.  The daily birds in flight show is a pleasure for all ages.  www.parcdesoiseaux.com

The picturesque medieval village of Pérouges (photos) is well worth the visit, and you can enjoy the local specialty -- the galette de Pérouges -- in the same café where Bill and Hillary went when they visited...

The city of Bourg en Bresse is only 45 minutes away, where you can visit the splendid Royal Monastery in Brou.

The web site "La Dombes"  will provide you with a treasure trove of information and photos to help you plan your visit !  (see the "Links" page)
