The Rhône

The Beaujolais Nouveau, the first taste of the year's grape harvest, will make its "coming out" on the weekend after the third Thursday in November. A number of activities will be planned;  visit the website: www.beaujolaisnouveautime.com

The city of Lyons, declared part of the World Heritage List by Unesco, is a never ending source of wonder!  The old city, the Saint Jean Cathedral, the lovely Place Bellecour, dozens of museums, festivals and, of course...shopping! Lyon is a wonderful city to visit on foot, but the extremely reasonable and easy to use rent-a-bikes are fun, too!

Closer to home, the city of Villefranche sur Saône, traversed from end to end by the Rue Nationale -- Rue "Nat" as the locals say -- lined with old houses which have been recently restored.  The atmosphere is lively and friendly, the shops offer a multitude of temptations, and you mustn't miss the famous "brioche pralinée" which you can buy and nibble right on the street while you shop !

And, last, but never least, the Beaujolais region -- breathtaking countryside, winemakers who will always be happy to invite you into their cellars to explain and to offer a taste, a great place for a long hike along the crests of the hilltops, and the wine museum in Saint Georges, or the local eco-museum in Beaujeu, where you will discover the culture and history of the region.
